Blood vessels supply nutrients to various tissues around and to the knee complex.  When there is damage to these vessels they can become inflamed or swollen and cause pain.   Blood clots can also form in these vessels.  In this section the focus is on vessel damage and inflammation and the formation of thrombosis.
